Jacqueline was the mayor's daughter. Her family the most prominent in the small lumber town. She had a best friend Kay. They were inseparable. One day, just before high school graduation things change. Jacqueline reveals she is a lesbian. For this her parents send her away. Fifteen years later her father has died and her mother is severely injured. She almost doesn't go back. If she hadn't gone back she wouldn't have found out the truth about her family and what her father's death really means. She wouldn't rekindle her friendship with Kay. Both know it's the only time they have ever been truly happy when they are together. But was it ever meant to be more than friends? Infused with a great deal of humor, this is a great read. Some of the family matters take up more time than I'd like. And I would have liked to hear Kay's thoughts more. Wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to this one some day! Still, highly recommended!

Love this book. Have read it many times. My copy was falling apart so i bought a version.
Reading this book after Hunter's Way was probably a mistake because Behind the Pine Curtain seemed so boring. Something that drove me crazy is the way the author repeats information over and over and over and over again. The narrator will explain an event, then instantly start a dialog between characters explaining the exact information. "Blue eyes on blue" and "fifteen years later" is written a million times. It gets annoying after a while and it's a waste of pages.

If you end up running across this book for an excellent bargain, then give it a shot, (the storyline's good). It's definitely not worth purchasing at full price.
Hill keeps on giving and this tale proves it. Two women who missed the first clues finally get to put it all together.
Just so so good. A definite read if you like Hill.
A great story of making something of yourself after your beaten down by the people who are supposed to love you unconditionally and reconnecting with old friends that you left behind because you didn't think they would love you for who you really are.
It was a good read for the few hours it took me to complete it. It was a little predictable, however, with an extremely abrupt ending. Kinda left me wanting more...
A nice small town story. I loved the parts where Jackie was catching up with her friends and the people who loved her. I was a little bored with the parts about the lumber business. And I think the story ended too abruptly, I would have liked a little epilogue or something. But all in all nice.
